Planning your VEHICLE CLEANING BAY This information is intended to help you plan your vehicle cleaning facility. Before commencing work, to ensure that all necessary requirements are met, please contact us for a free, no-obligation survey. To minimise damage to vehicles and equipment there should be easy entrance and exit, try to establish work patterns and traffic flows for current, planned and possible future requirements. If this is a new site keep in mind refueling, and topping up oil and water reservoirs To establish basic layout put down traffic cones in the shape and size of the proposed wash bay, this will prove the feasibility of the drive paths, the cones can be re-positioned until the optimum layout is achieved. The ideal size for a wash bay pad to accommodate a 16.5 metre long vehicle will be 24m x 6m.This area will accommodate any type of wash equipment, but space will still be required for the related pumps, tanks etc. a 3m x 3m housing is normal. Ensure that the wash bay is made wide enough for the operator to move freely around the vehicle when in the wash bay - if the space is available. Drainage to foul sewer via an approved interceptor is mandatory. Although water-recycling systems are available a connection to foul drain is advisable. Water requirement will be 30 gal. Per. Minute, and the electrical supply will be three phase neutral and earth at 60 amps per phase. This again will cover most if not all types of vehicle wash plant. The wash bay pad must be well drained with no standing water or puddles being allowed to form. We strongly recommend the installation of substantial well-fixed wheel guides designed to deflect a maximum weight vehicle without damage to the wheels or tyres. Wash bay entry and exit protection bollards will prevent damage to the equipment (if substantial enough the drivers will keep well clear. The wash bay should be fitted with basic illumination, entry and exit traffic lights, and simple but informative instructions for driver information. If the wash area is adjacent to parked vehicles or working personnel, spray containment screens should be considered. Some types of machines take over ten minutes to clean a 16m vehicle so a simple shelter for the driver/operator should be considered. Remember, Archway TCS provide a completely free and without obligation site survey to help you plan your bay. |
